In the Clearing

A young girl is witness to a moment in her future, her own teenage downfall. Studying a number of female characters from books, film and photographs (including Scout Finch from Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird and David Lynch's Twin Peaks), Natalie continued to explore her interest in the notion of loss of innocence, teenage longing and the darker side of youth.

In the Clearing was born during studio time derived from an Australia Council space grant awarded to Natalie in 2003. Using Barwon Heads community hall and Chunky Move studios, Natalie developed the basis for this solo as well as the material for her dance film Spinning Yarns. In the Clearing was performed in Melbourne before touring with the Little Asia Dance Exchange.
